Gah, my bad, i definitely meant straw, not hay! And while we're on it, i found a local guy selling rolled bales for $35. Is that a good price? And should i be looking for boxed bales rather than rolled, or does that matter?

$35 for the huge rolled bales? That's not bad. Does he deliver?

It might be easier to take flakes off the smaller bales, though.

I'll have to ask him about delivering. Hopefully he does, since all we have is a pickup and I'm not sure it's capable of handling the mass of a rolled bale...

Unfortunately i can't seem to find anyone other than him selling straw near me. It's slim pickins, so I guess that's really the answer to my question right there :/

Check with your local co-op if you have one, ours sells the smaller bales for $3.99 each. Good thing, because I wouldn't even have room for a one-ton rolled bale!
