I am military living in Italy trying to start a egg-centric back yard free range chicken coop, i have zero experience in raising. My main question is where do i start?

Welcome :)
Have a read through the site :) it can seem overwhelming but there are some great ideas for coops and set ups here.
Then have a look at feeds and what breeds you fancy.
Predators pests and diseases and such are also well documented and you will need to be aware if the basics.

You'll love it I'm sure. It's quite amazing how these little bundles if feathers can worm their way into your heart :)

Is there differences in breed that do well in Europe vs America?

Hello :frow and Welcome to BYC! Like everybody else said, the BYC Learning Center is a great place to start. A lot of the same breeds are available here and in Europe, but it will mostly depend on your local climate. I don't know that there is a thread from Italy on the Where Am I Where Are You Board, you could try starting one, or try looking for places that have similar climates maybe? https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you Check locally what breeds are popular also, where they sell chicken feed, what is advertised in the local papers etc for ideas on breeds.
