This may be a dumb question, but I have a broody hen and don't need anymore barnyard chicks!

If I take her eggs out from underneath her, will she just sit on "nothing", or would she lay more to sit on more? I'm a bit confused. I know that once they are broody, they are hard to break. But, I don't even know where to begin. I also feel so bad and guilty for stealing her eggs if I do so!! I'm considering buying some eggs of my choice to put underneath her, but I just had a 0% hatch from shipped eggs, and I'm a bit reluctant to spend the money again..grrr...

Thanks for any and all info!

If she is truly stuck on being broody you can continue to take the eggs from her and she'll steadily sit on nothing!! If she's just kinda broody she'll get off the nest after a couple of days!! I have the kinda broody part happen to about 4 or 5 of mine in the past few weeks!!One way to try and break her is to put her in a wire bottom cage for a few days. Make sure there's nothing in there to keep her bottom warm!! Good luck!!
