Questions, quesions, questions????

Not really interested in much more than something really nice to look at... I realize the size and honestly that is part of my draw as they are so very small and sweet.

Then the button quail is for you. They are beautiful, frisky, tiny, the complete package minus the holding part. All their lives, they're cute too. You should definitely get a BQ.

They are very neat little birds, I love mine

Ok in trying to get all of my ducks in a row so I can get some quail (kinds strange concept really:lol:) what are you all using for housing?? I have an incubator that I getting ready to test with some chicken eggs (gotta wait for few hens to lay them first!!) I also have several brooding pens set up and ready to roll. I have a good amount of materials to build some pens but I am wondering what you folks use for a pen??? Is it elevated with a wire bottom??? or do you have them on the ground??? just trying to be as prepared as I can be, I hate to not get all the info correct the first go round.

Some of mine are in clear rubbermaid totes, I think they are the 30-something quart? About 15 inches wide and 2 feet long, 12 or so inches high. 2 of my groups are in these (groups of 5). My other 2 groups are in a rat manor cage that is divided top and bottom. These are also groups of 5.

For the babies, I use a 3-gallon Kritter Keeper with wood shavings from Petco or paper towels and a rag on the side with a heat lamp on the top. Then, I move them to a large bird cage with small bars so I don't have to constantly clean the bottom and they can't slip through. I call it the "lazy method", but I'm not sure how the wood shavings would have worked. Just from my experience, the button quails hated it. But let's not focus on that subject. Basically, button quails are very flexible.

I build my own cages, with mouse/snake mesh wire.
They mostly have a half solid half wire base with a good depth of sawdust.
I keep mine in pairs as they seem to be happier that way.

Those Button Quails are beautiful
