Hi BYC'ers we have been treating our two week old chicks for coccidia with Corid, and it appears to have worked great, we are on our sixth day of treatment and the most of the chicks have tripled in size, we still are losing the random week or small chick though. So far we have lost 12 out of the 42 we started with. Most of these were lost before we knew what was wrong, and some were lost after starting treatment. My question is, when can we introduce the 9 replacement chicks we got. We had already planned on keeping them separate for a week to make sure that they were all healthy and growing. How will we know when the other chicks are healthy and over the coccidia? I do understand that it is always around and that they have it all the time, but when are they considered healthy again?
We have the new chicks on Medicated starter and are doing the preventive dose of Corid in their water. They also get a Greek yogurt mash every morning. I planned on continuing the preventive Corid in the older chicks water and they also get medicated starter and Greek yogurt. Also I have been giving Polyvisol vitamins to any of the older chicks that look like they need it.
Any opinions/help is much appreciated, this is our first bout with chicks being sick and dying. We have never had this happen in any of our other chicks before.
Thank you in advance.
