Needed a coop very quickly, but was not ready to build a permanent home. Was given a bad ¾ inch piece of plywood that had 6 X 4 feet of usable surface. Damaged 6 foot fence panels were given to me if I would take all four. I already had enough 2 X 4 materials to box in the ply wood floor and legs. Salvaged the two pieces of corrugated plastic roof panels. I rested the bottom fencing stringer on the floor and nailed them in place. I used fence pickets to cover the gaps at the corners. A shed roof was pitched by using the front side picket as the high point and drew a line to the top of the top stringer. Gave me about a four pitch. Used pickets as rake boards and roofing supports. Left a two foot opening at the front edge floor to roof. Perch poles double as stiffeners and run on a diagonal. ½ inch hardware cloth covers the top 2/3 rds and an old cabinet door covers the rest of the opening. I have an electric two wire fence surrounding the place as we have most every kind of chicken eating critter you can name. The girls took right to it and have a well established order as to who roost where. After two weeks I have started a list of changes that I will incorporate into the permanent coop. Floor height of two feet is a must for my tired old back, lounging space with a sand / dust bath under one edge is another. Still working with water and feeder options. Material cost was $0.00. Time to build, about four hours.
