hi all,

is a plastic kitty-litter container suitable as a nest-box for a rhode-island red? the opening is 11"high x 9" wide, and it's 15" deep.

thanks,

-eric

thanks. one more question: can i leave them un-attached? free-standing in the floor or on a wide shelf a foot off the floor?

to mount them in a fixed manner, they might not be convenient to retrieve eggs, nor to clean.

You could weight the base with a stepping stone, that would hold it down but not be to hard to move for cleaning and gathering. Or even screw it to a piece of 2x10 or scrap plywood to give it some weight.

I use kitty litter boxes for nest boxes. I have them sitting on the floor. My girls seem to like them fine. Cleaning them is really easy too.
