Quick question:What type of bedding should I put in nesting boxes?!?!?

I'm new to this, and a little confused about what would make the chickens comfortable and happy. Happy enough to lay some eggs.

I use pine shavings. It's very easy to keep clean (if you need to you can just scoop out whatever shouldn't be there), and the hens like to push it around to make things comfy before laying.

Others use straw - I don't like straw because it mats when it gets dirty and it can harbor mites and such in the hollow straws. But, many people use it so....

I've heard of people using sand. I have no experience with that.

Those are the most common things that I've heard of people using. I think it comes down to personal preference.

Thanks. I think I like your idea about pine shavings, I just wasn't really sure.

My chickens don't like pine shavings. They like straw.
