Quietest Breed for Urban Environment?

Seramas are quiet? My little serrama hen is by far the loudest when she wants the nest to lay an egg. The first time I heard her I thought the hawks were back. and someone was dying. And when she was broody she had a very loud banshee screech any time someone came near her.

My gals are exactly one year old. They were nearly silent until they started laying. They have gotten noisier over time. Since we found a new home for Ginny (the talkative Buff) the oher girls seem to be quieting a bit.

I think I may have been training them to be noisy by letting them out to range when they squawk! I'm working towards penning them more often, so that they are more use to the idea of not have total free rein all of the time. I made them stay in the run an extra 45 minutes this morning, and put them away about an hour early as well. So far so good. Wish me luck.

Silkies!! By far! I have several breeds and the 6 "regular" chickens make far more noise than our 8 Silkies. Even our silkie roo is quiet.

I was thinking about this thread last night as we were shutting down the coop. I have to agree about the silkies being my quietest birds.

Seramas can be quiet. Their crow is 1/3 the volume of a standard sized roo.

Polish. My polish don't make a sound ever. Also my cochins and silkies are very quiet.

My Silkies and my Light Brahmas are very quiet. My rooster Light Brahma is 13 weeks old now and has never crowed once. He's VERY quiet. My EE hen is VERY quiet, and she naps frequently. My BOrpington is noisy.

I am not going to say that there is one breed over another for the least noisey. I know that I bought a Buff Orp Roo who was the runt outta 6 Roo's. He doesn't make a peep. I think being the runt for so long has suppressed his urge to crow.
He has 7 girls and all but one are laying fertile eggs. So he is getting the job done. Maybe I am lucky, or maybe buying a runty Roo could limit the noise that most Roo like to make. I agree that Roo/cockerel are the only noise makers in a flock.

Thanks for all the input on this topic. What I'm hearing, (which may be different from what's being said), is that while there may be a trend within a breed, individual personality has a BIG influence.

Within my flock, the Omega hen is by far the quietest. She is a BR.

The loudest, and perhaps the most unplesant to hear at all, is the BO. She is the mid-level hen.

The Alpha hen is the most talkative, but generally has a lower volume and a more pleasant sound, even when displeased. She is a BR.
