After discovering one of my 9 wk old pullets is really a Roo I need to replace her/him as I live in city limits and can't bother neighbors with crack of dawn crowing. I'm wondering about the 'quietest' chicken for my yard. The ones I have just do the slightest noise when walking in garden, can hardly hear them. I've heard some...maybe the Wyandottes...really like to 'talk' and once they start they keep it up. I don't want angry neighbors. Any input on this subject appreciated. One lady I spoke with yesterday says she thinks they may BOTH be Roos as 9 weeks too young to have so much color in comb.

Thx,

Female chickens can make quite a racket too,
(wait til your pullets start to lay, they're gonna be telling everyone ALL about it!)
but usually only during daylight hours unlike males who can go off in the dark.

Not sure about your birds there, thinking lower bird male upper may be female.
Usually easier to tell at about 6 week by size and color of comb and wattle, some you have to wait to see hackle and saddle feather shapes around 12-14 weeks....or wait for the crows.

I added a Silver Laced Wyandotte and an Olive Egger today, same hatch date and same breeder that I got my Dark Brown Leghorns from. The OE is Rusty Red and Gray (think this is a Blue something) but can't find pictures of adult OE with this coloring. Anyone know what the cross might be that this Red/Gray came from? Any pictures of adults with this coloring?

Not sure if I read or interpreted your post correctly, but adding a single bird is often times very hard on the bird. All the other birds know this is a stranger. It might be better to go through the winter, and then add at least a pair later on.

Did adding those 2 birds improve or increase the noise problem?
How did integration go?

Where did you get the OE, did they tell you what breeds were used??
OE can be crossed from many breeds,
posting pics of bird might garner some indication of breeds used.

They are all young. I live in town and have small back yard. Recently one of my original 2 hens died and the remaining LH (17 weeks old) was very lonesome so I added the Silver laced Wyandotte and the Olive Egger (both 14.5 weeks) so none of them are of the "noise making age" yet. The Oliver Egger was from a Blue Copper Maran roo and a Blue Wheaten Ameraucana hen. I'll post a pic.
