Quietest chickens?

My EE is very quiet and you will do well having those, but when they get scared EE can be very noisy. My EE fights for the nesting box space all the time with my RIR. Sometimes, the neighbours come rushing over to see if my chickens are hurt because her fighting/egg song is so loud. RIR are also very noisy when egg laying or plain lonely. My jersey Giant is even worse.

The 4 pack of breasts at Safeway. I've noticed that the economy 18 pack from Costco can get really noisy when I'm bringing it in from the truck.

All kidding aside... I have a delaware, 2 light brahmas, a ba and an ee and they are all very quiet. The BA and EE squawk quite a bit if picked up, but they calm down. Outside of that, they don't "speak" unless we're chasing them around and outside of that they just whisper to each other.

x2 I have a Light Brahma and she is the quietest of the flock. Huge bird, very sweet, kind of does her own thing. I am thinking of getting another Brahma so she has a similar-personality friend to hang with.

I have also heard that Salmon Faverolles are very quiet birds too. On my list list year too.

One of my friends in town said her Buff Orpington was her sweetheart and quiet except for the egg song. But if they didn't sing, how would you know when breakfast was ready?

Great thread! Thanks!

My Black Copper Marans are the quietest of the "normal" hens, and indeed lay the biggest eggs.

My Shamos are the absolute quietest of all though.

They don't make the egg song, their "talking" is very quiet, and they're very, well, quiet. . . The males love to crow, but only because you have to keep them separate, so they love asserting their ownership over their personal spot.

Frozen?

In that vein:
Jerry received a parrot for his birthday.

The parrot was fully-grown with a bad attitude and worse vocabulary. Every other word was an expletive. Those that weren't expletives were, to say the least very rude.

Jerry tried hard to change the bird's attitude and was constantly saying polite words, playing soft music, anything he could think of to try and set a good example. Nothing worked.

He yelled at the bird and the bird yelled back. He shook the bird and the bird just got angrier and became even more rude. Finally in a moment of desperation. Jerry put the parrot in the FREEZER.

For a few moments he heard the bird squawk and kick and scream. Then suddenly, there was a quiet-----

-Not a sound for half a minute. Jerry was frightened that he might have hurt the bird and quickly opened the freezer door.

The Parrot calmly stepped out onto Jerry's extended arm and said: "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I will endeavor at once to correct my behavior. I really am truly sorry and beg your forgiveness."

Jerry was astonished at the bird's change in attitude and was about to ask what had made the difference and caused such a dramatic change when the parrot continued: "May I ask what the chicken did???"

Also, my Buff Orpington grumbles a lot and has a really loud egg sone. She also lays the smallest eggs. Drama queen.

That is really funny.

Silkies. They don't even make their presence noticeable! Until the rooster goes through "chicken puberty" he will make a few small noises that are sharp and loud. Ours only does this like twice when a hen starts "croaking".

thanks everyone for the feedback. I think i'm ready to give the backyard chicken farm a try! Hopefully my Homeowner's Association and neighbors don't shut me down.....
