Quietest Parrots?

So many parrots! Hadn't quite relaized how many. Linnies and GCC seem like awesome birds. Also there were a lot of conures and specifically GCC on Craigslist today

And how does one get a Linnie?

I have 7 pairs of parrotlets, and they are not noisy , unless they start singing or talking to themselves,not irritating. they are not as loud as parakeets or cockatiels.

I read that someone said that African grey sounds were pleasant. Pleasant is in the ear of the beholder.

My Timneh African grey sings us the song of his people right after lights out for bedtime and before anyone is awake in the morning.

His sounds are almost exactly like a bottle rocket whistle, a train whistle off the show Thomas the Train, and a fire alarm chirp. He also has a sonic, almost mechanical sounding scream. He does it when he wants out or wants attention. Otherwise he just talks. And he talks . All . Day. Long.


My budgie is actually louder, and makes noise with more frequency, intensity, and duration. She chirps incessantly whether she's in or out of her cage. The only time she's not chirping is when she's with my husband and then she's purring.

I've had 2 GCCs as well, and one older female very seldomly made a peep. Her younger friend that we acquired later loved screeching.

We got them for the noise and companionship, so we don't mind it. We are crazy like that, I guess.

Bourkes parakeets sing beautifully and it is never too loud or annoying. And I find Budgies annoying. Bourkes and finches are the only birds allowed in our house as their songs are very pleasant and never too loud.

I have a almost silent gcc by then again I have cockatoos gcc make amazing pets mine speaks Russian Arabic and English I'm trying to teach her Ukrainian haha

I would not say any parrot would be called a quiet animal, not like a cat or a gerbil! But, my African Grey, Dylan, is quieter than my Cocatiels were. She makes a lot of microwave beeps, barks, and does demand that I "Come here!" pretty often. That is what is nice about her, she does use her words and sounds in proper context. For example, she barks at the garbage truck and the UPS guy, learned from the dogs! When I am cooking dinner, she makes microwave beeps. These are not very quiet sounds, but I find them entertaining! Most parrot owners will be partial to their own species,but I think that African Grey parrots are well worth the cost of ownership, even though they are not inexpensive. If you are shopping for a pet parrot, the rescue places need volunteers -- you could try before you buy that way. The bird can choose their future owner at some of those places. Wait and save up for your choice because it is a long term commitment!
