I would not say any parrot would be called a quiet animal, not like a cat or a gerbil! But, my African Grey, Dylan, is quieter than my Cocatiels were. She makes a lot of microwave beeps, barks, and does demand that I "Come here!" pretty often. That is what is nice about her, she does use her words and sounds in proper context. For example, she barks at the garbage truck and the UPS guy, learned from the dogs! When I am cooking dinner, she makes microwave beeps. These are not very quiet sounds, but I find them entertaining! Most parrot owners will be partial to their own species, but I think that African Grey parrots are well worth the cost of ownership, even though they are not inexpensive. If you are shopping for a pet parrot, the rescue places need volunteers -- you could try before you buy that way. The bird can choose their future owner at some of those places. Wait and save up for your choice because it is a long term commitment!
