Quit Smoking - day 3

You two can do it! I quit for good ten years ago. Sugarless gum helped a bit, especially since every time I popped in a piece I'd think, "This smells *so* much better than a cigarrette!" Also, for the true masochists, I did wind sprints whenever I was home and had a craving. They felt so terrible I had a very stark reminder of how I'd feel going up stairs in another 15 years or so.

I wish you they best of luck. There are lots of ways to quit, and you *will* find a way.

I did more crafts with my hands after I quit. A lot of knitting and some cross stitch. I would sit and knit on my breaks at work, instead of smoking. It not only gave me something to do with my hands, it made me focus on something else. Any kind of project is good, I think. It keeps your hands and your brain busy. Plus it breaks some of your routine, that involves smoking.

For me, it was easier to quit in the summer. I went on a camping vacation in the middle of nowhere and just didn't bring any cigs. 100 miles to the nearest store.

Good Luck to you! I quit 6 months ago and DH just quit yesterday. I am so excited not to have all of our stuff smelling like smoke! You can do this. The hardest thing for me was learning how to drive again without having a cigarette in my mouth!
I like the $5 a day idea. I may have to do that for the DH only it was a $20 a day habit! Geez!

I may buy a new truck with that savings! Lol!

congrats keep it up today is 7 months for hubby and I. i avoided places and ppl ithat smoked for a long time. and went to alot of places i was never allowed to smoke. my kitchen, which led to the extra weight that i'm working off now. my friends and neighbors that don't smoke that helped alot. i had really bad detox headaches and jitters for the 1st week after that i knew i cig would bring it all back noway. now I can't beleive i smelled like that.

side effect of not smoking I'm grump or my hubby's tolerence is lower (we havent decided).

I quit November 1. I used the patches. Boy- that made it sooo much easier. I just tell myself everyday...I will not smoke, no matter what. Smoking is not an option. It feels great to give someone a hug, and not worry that I stink like cigarettes. I have a lot more time to get things done, rather than always being outside to smoke. I can go out to dinner after work with friends, and not have to worry about when I'm going to get to smoke. It's great not to be ruled by cigarettes anymore! You can do it! Drink lots of water, go to bed early, have lots of sugarfree hard candies to suck on, and gum. Deep breathing helps, too! You can do it!

Thank you all for the encouragement! I made it through today at WITHOUT lighting up! I am just a tickled as I can be that when my husband gets home from work this evening I can hug him and not stink!!!! I AM doing this!!!!

Opa, how's the Chantix working? I am trying to get my boyfriend to quit and after 24-48 hours of 'trying' he gives in. I saw a commercial on Chantix and was wondering how effective it is at controlling the urge to smoke. I'd appreciate any feedback you could give me on the prescription....
