Speaking of chicks. Ours are sure getting around lately. They're just over three weeks and the little EE discovered she can roost on the guard rails of our porch. I had figured the EE would be slightly smaller than my BO, but so far it's the opposite. Or maybe this BO is my last pullet reincarnated and she's going to be a midget

I am pretty sure they can. It is an issue of them being able to get enough oxygen during the pipping process. But if they manage to break through the shell then they probably have also perforated the membrane and air can get inside.
