Has anyone ever had a chicken lay an egg without the shell?![]()
Yes, a couple of mine did that in their first year of laying. It was like an egg with the membrane but no hard shell. I can mean they need extra calcium but it is not an uncommon thing.Has anyone ever had a chicken lay an egg without the shell?![]()
Yes, some folks keep their birds in a run. Mine are free range in the back yard, they get grass..which has clacium in it, and other weeds too. I used to keep them in the run, but haven't in a while. When they were in the run, I would put a lot more oyster shell out for them..to eat when they wanted it. I now put it out about once a week. I see some go after it right away, others won't for a while. They say, that they know when they need it. Interesting.Yes, a couple of mine did that in their first year of laying. It is amazing to me how they seem to know just what they need. Instinct or intelligence, doesn't matter which, they are a lot smarter than we give them credit for.Yes, some folks keep their birds in a run.
