WB, thanks for the quotes this morning. I need some inspiration (or a good kick) to get going. Lost the 2nd chicken in 10 days yesterday and feeling pretty bummed about it. I think all this heat we've been having is just magnifying any little thing off in them. Some day I want to be one of those people that can say they have a 6 year old hen that still occasionally lays. Of course, we've only been doing this since Dec. 2013 so I have a ways to go, just be nice to have one get old.

Sorry to hear about you losing another hen Debby. I know the heat can be really hard on the chickens. Wish I could afford to air condition the coop.
We are supposed to have temps around 98/99 this weekend and summer hasn't officially started yet. I will get the chickens some watermelons to help keep them hydrated.

I'm sorry to hear you lost another hen Debby. I know what you mean about wanting them to grow old. We lost several around the 18 month mark and I was ready to throw in the towel. It seemed like I just couldn't keep them alive, but now I buy all my stock local and we have 3, 2, 1 year olds and the babies all thriving so far.

Debby so sorry about your hen. It's so heart breaking when we lose them.
