Yesterday there were 3 and possibly a 4th Denial of Service attack against a major US provider of services to major corporations and Internet Service Providers that cause site outage and availability issues throughout the day. Following is a illustration of the outages at their peak.
If you suffered an inability to connect or serious delays in connection to anything on the internet yesterday it was probably due to this attack.
From what I have been reading this was not, as they said, "some 400 pound teenager in their mother's basement", but instead a concentrated attack to test our ability to recover and defend. This has evidently been happening for a while now and getting worse each time. So, I guess that short of an official declaration, we are involved in some sort of cyber war with someone or something. We all may just have to re-learn how to write letters and talk on an old fashioned corded telephone.
