Quotes and Thoughts for the Day

When I was a kid, I lived in FL.. Military stepfather to boot! My mother would shake her finger at us each morning before we went out the door for school saying, Don't forget to say...Yes mam and No man, Yes sir and no sir...and if you have a question..you say Sir? Mam? Not, what..? Came to the western part of the country, and got laughed at when I talked this way. One day in my art class, I was asked a question. I didn't hear him, so I asked..Sir? The whole class burst out laughing. Oh boy..this art teacher was a big man, and he pounded that big ol fist on his desk and said..I don't EVER want to hear you laugh at this young lady again! If only half of you had the manners that she does! Well, eventually all of my siblings and myself, were telling my mother that it just isn't done here. Please Mom, please don't make us. Is that sad or what? I love that the south still does the yes sir and no sir. Love it.

Loved your story. When we had our store in Key West, I could always tell when a customer was either raised in the south or was military...just because they would say "yes mam".

I meant to put yes mam on the ovation, came out man! lol...

But yes, can always tell here when someone is from the south or military. I love it. I have to ask where they are from if they are talking to me.

Lol! I always grew up saying "What?"

"Pardon" or other formal terms do not sound right and I can't train myself to say them.

That's what I get for growing up in the North
