All parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, brothers and sisters...everyone. As you begin/continue your shopping for Christmas gifts PLEASE include, for each person but especially children, at least one book. Does not matter what book, just one that they may be interested in reading.

I am a big reader myself, always have been. Books teach and entertain. They stimulate the mind of a child and an adult. They offer vision into ideas and end up creating beautiful whole people. Reading is not only FUN it is essential.

Oh, and it has to be a REAL book, made of paper with printing of ink on pages gathered together between beautiful covers. eBooks are o.k. eventually but they should not be the primary source of literature...especially for young people.

And remember, there is no app to replace your lap...read to your child!

Then I'm in a heap of trouble! <sigh> Making eye contact is one of the toughest things I have to do, and I'll go out of my way to avoid it....messing with the strap on my purse, chasing an imaginary piece of lint off my shirt, tiling my head to scratch an itch on the back of my neck.....whatever I can do that takes the focus off my face. As a kid I had a serious stuttering problem. A word or two was difficult, a sentence was frustrating, and an entire idea or spoken thought was impossible. Having someone look at me while I was struggling made it even more of a trial. I don't stutter nearly as much as I did, but old habits die hard and eye contact is still extremely intimidating to me.
