I know in feed stores there is a 12 chick min in Rhode Island but what about small time stuff out of your home? Is there a way to go around this legally?

I'm assuming you are in Rhode Island. If you live in an urban area 12 chickens are a lot. Be grateful for that. And out of respect for your neighbors, just obey the law. Just imagine the aromas on a hot summer day if you and all of your neighbors had 12 or more chickens.

Sorry, that's better. Have you tried a different store, Tractor Supply or other local farm store? The feed store I purchased my baby chicks from had a 6 chick limit. Minimum purchase that is. However, the feed store I go to regularly has sold smaller numbers. It may have more to do with the time of year. I have looked online and during the coldest winter months you have to order at least 8 chicks. I'm guessing they share their body heat during shipping????I meant selling less then 12
