just a little whle ago while surfing around on byc i herd my 2 labs barking on the west side of my farm, they are penned on the east side by the coop, i though ok since were having some trouble on the farm (we think homeless people are near by) i would go and check on the live stock.....first my beloved chickens....with both shadow and lady in toe (both litter mates rescue a year a part from each other)and sticking to me like glue i walked over to the chicken coop and turned on the light!! to my horror molly my BR was stretched out face down not breathing with a massive whole by her vent....poor polly by her side (they were inseprable) protecting her lifeless body, i called my husband at work to tell him what i had found...unfornuantly at this hour there is no deputys on....and none would bother rolling out of bed for a co workers wife in distress. after hanging up with my husband and putting the dog's back in there run i desided to check on my 3 horses...found them lose out behind the barn!!!!.. i'm not sure what to do now..we already have had the sheriff out once this week

Oh, gosh. I'm sorry for your loss. That is crazy. Sounds like it's time to put up some type of camera to see what the heck is going on in the middle of the night.

I would definitely put up some security cameras. I have some hooked up to a DVR. Some one was steeling my eggs. I caught him on camera. I told him if I saw him on my property I would turn the video over to the police dept. He hasn't been back.

it looks like they will be putting some critter cameras in this week to see what is going one....but yet that still doesn't bring back molly

You don't say specifically what happened the first time you had the police to your place. Can you give us some more specifics on that matter?

Homeless people? Just curious. Where do you live? Out in the dingle berries? Or closer in to town?

In either case, you can just bet your sweet bippy that I'd be having the cops out as many times as it took to solve the problem if it is indeed human caused.

This hole near the Molly's vent....do you know what caused it? You didn't mention hearing any gunshots and so I just wonder if you have any idea what caused the fatal injury.

A video camera system is an excellent idea, but also very costly. If it were me, I think I'd first invest in a whole bushel of flood lights. The kind that have the screen cages around them that are mounted up high on the roof peak in most cases. They put out great light and are very hard for vandals to knock out. And, if you do go with a video surveillance system later, you then have appropriate lighting to capture good details at any time, day or night.

The whole thing sounds rather scary to me, especially as it sounds as though you were home alone at the time of this all happening. Hope things quiet down for you! Poor Molly. What a horrible way to go. So sorry for your loss.

our town has a strange lay out....i live out in the "country" but the town line is right in the middle of our road, up to the road before my farm we have streets and houses to the south west of us and on the northside of the road we have farms.....our town is so small that if a teenage get's in trouble in town and by the time they get home the parents already know about it type town.....directly arcross the street from me is 2 horse pens with a shed that is falling down....that's where i think the homeless people are staying...we had no evedance of them bunking down in our barn yet...because we live hwy 54 we tend to get a lot of drifters in the area, my husband once picked one out of a ditch a half mile form our farm when he was on duty one night.
