You might try putting in some motion lights and recording cameras. We had someone steal a tank of gas on the porch in the middle of the day with 5 cars sitting outside. We have been keeping a close eye on things and put in the motion lights. We even had two witnesses since we have a camera that doesn't record my MIL seen the person grab the gas and my FIL looked outside and seen the car drive off. This was the next day after two kids (one of them was one that took the gas) came walking up the side of the house at 10:30pm and my in-laws seen them on camera and opened the door and shocked them which they looked nervous. They said they were out of gas and were parked at the corner of the road. My FIL was nice and let them have some and they ended up pouring half the gas into the tank when they only lived about 2 miles from here. After we seen the guy grab the gas we knew they must of been trying to look from something to steal the night before. We asked around while waiting for the police to show up and found out they are the local theives and usually steal something small to test the place out before coming back. Also heard rumors that they have burnt other people's houses down so it has us worried some. We didn't have enough evidence since my MIL didn't get a good enough look at his face on the camera and my FIL didn't see the car close enough. The cop did investigate around for a few days which surprised everyone that he was doing his job. Since then we seen a jeep down the road drive off fast and left some empty gas tanks on the end of our field which were probably stolen and the guy that stole the gas keeps driving by our house at night on a four wheeler to get to his friends house so we are on constant watch to make sure he doesn't steal anything. If we had a camera that recorded at the time we could of had him arrested. I've even heard he stole a goat from someone a few years ago so I'm worried about my chickens and turkeys.
