Rabbit and Rabbit Hutches

Thanks for all of the replies and advice. Of course I am no closer to making a final decision on how I want to build it.

Smokehouse13: I have some similar cages for my quail.

Cargo, thanks for the information. I will definitely be incorporating it into my building plans.

Don't use hardware cloth for flooring...too hard on large rabbits' feet. Use, I think it is 16? gauge for floor. You can always go to someplace like KW Cages online and see what they recommend for the larger breeds. I definitely wouldn't have wood anywhere they can reach/pee on. Rabbit pee is stinky! :)

i would not recommend wood or pvc frames. i thought when i built my wood and wire cages i though it would be fine have a wood frame but my doe has chewed one of the corners up pretty bad and she has only been in it for a bit over a week. they WILL chew ANYthing you let them so they wil chew on the pvc too and i would not want a bunch of pvc in my rabbit!

desertbay09, Sorry for the late response.
The hutches are roughly 2x2 pen size and about 6 to 8 ft long. We use 1/2 wire on the floor and 1 in wire on the sides and in between cages. Doors are made with the same wire that is one the sides. We use to use wood in between cages, but yes some bunnies like to chew. We paint with a rustoleum paint for weather protection. The roof is just metal.
These are strong durable hutches. We have raised rabbits for over 8 years, large and small breeds. I wouldn't use anything else for an outdoor hutch. Only time we have had any problems with predators was the raccoons opening the feeder lids to eat some food. We usually put nest boxes with straw in for the winter and put some kind of wind break on the sides for better protection from the cold. Of course a great placement in the yard for weather works also.
Love the manure for my gardens.
Here is an updated version of the old ones, only difference is the wire in between cages.

This is what we used when we had rabbits, my husband builds them. We raised NZ , Californias , and Lionheads.

Yes, another old thread I'm replying on. Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on hutches. I was planning on building a 6x2x5 hutch with a 10x5x4 run but then I got to thinking maybe I should just build the run with a place to sleep inside? Any thoughts? Also was wondering if any of you had experience with runs and do your rabbits tend to dig?

Also I should note that it's planned for three rabbits. A buck and two does.
