I got a used rabbit hutch, and it came w/ a third of a bag of purina rabbit food.

Now- I don't feed purina to my dog b/c of quality, but is the rabbit food any better- and more importantly is it good for chickens- or is it a good 'treat' for them. If so- how much can they eat?

Rabbit food is usually just alfalfa pellets and chickens love them.
Look at the ingredients. It should be fine as a treat.

Don't be fooled by the animal food makers. Most of it is made
in the same places or uses the same ingredients.

I use rabbit pellets as a treat, very rarely, in the wintertime (mainly), when "yard greenery" (dandelion, chickweed, henbit, plantain and grass) isn't as available for me to pick the flock their salad.

I don't give them much, at all, maybe two handfuls (I have small hands) once a week or less.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who makes salad for the chickies. DH says we have the most spoiled chickens and ducks...They get fresh salad everyday.

Right now they are all cooped up and can't get any fresh pickings. I make sure to gather a bunch up and put in the 'pond' for them to snack on all day. They love it.

Most rabbit pellets contain salt.

I don't know if this is good or bad, but it could be hard on their kidneys, couldn't it? Or just if it's fed regularly?

I've tossed about 1/8 cup into their 'house' twice(so they can scratch around for it), and I've tried hand feeding it as a treat. They haven't eaten it formmy hand, but it seems like they eat it from in their house.
