Rabbit had one kit

I'm sorry

I had a doe that just recently had only one kit also. It lived about 10 days, and then died.

I'm sorry you lost the kit.

I rehab cottontails and kits are not easy to raise. The last babies I raised were just 2 or three days old, there were 6, and I lost 2 right off the bat. They were very small. The other 4 were more healthy and had little fat tummies. I was able to save 4 of them and release them back to the field behind my house. I would not breed the Doe again. Maybe you can find a home for her as a pet. It would be a good idea to tell the future owner not to breed her if you rehome her. I use cecotropes from the beginning on orphaned kits. It seems to stimulate their appetite and give them a better chance.
Sincerely, Bunny

Ya i plan on rehoming her but the problem is shes not very human friendly. She tolerates me and thats it. She was that way when i got her and shes still that way despite all my efforts to befriend her. So she will probably be hard to rehome.

I have an older doe that had one (that I found) very large stillborn kit a week after her due date. I think it was a problem with temps in the 90s while she was pregnant, and/or her age (almost two years).

Personally, I give my does three tries before they go to freezer camp. Some of my best mothers took a while to get the hang of it, and now I'm weaning litters of 8-10

Her baby was born alive but he didnt make it through the night. How long after having the kit does it take for thier milk to dry up? Dont want to rehome her till after she dries up. If i cant find her a home dh wants to eat her lol. Shes definitely meaty, enough ive tried everything to slim her down and she just stays the same weight no matter how i feed her.

dont know, ive always tried to rebreed my does two wks after kindling. that gives them about 2 wks to recuperate from weaning a litter, till she kindles again, the milk im sure doesnt dry up tween litters.

why wait, if you rehome her, go ahead and get rid of her,?? if not, put her in the crock pot.
