Yes there are crappy vets same as there are crappy people but there are many good ones too. I understand that you know that but upon reading what you wrote I would have thought that any vet in my neighborhood was going to throw poisonous darts at my bunny and charge me $5,000 for it.

ok well I did not intend for that to be the message conveyed and I hope her rabbit is fine and or gets better. I will not be posting any more in this thread because I apparently have irritated some. (BTW most time people dont intend for something to be taken a certain way its the reader who reads to much into it. message could be sent to a person one way yet recieved differently. I totally understand that.)

Sounds like your rabbit is developing a case of earmites. Look into the ears for any scabs. If you see them it's earmites. You can pick up medicine at your local feed store.

paddock, ear mites do not cause wry neck. Its probably got an innder ear infection of some sort causing it.

Severe cases of ear mites can cause infections to all parts of the ear, including the inner part (and can become so severe that the ear rots away). That infection can lead to wry neck. If the head is crooked when there's ear mites, chances are it will remain crooked when the ear mites are gone. Ear mites are nasty little things, which is insane because they're so easy (and cheap) to treat and keep at bay.

Now an update...... I have put him outside in a watermelon crate on pine shavings. He is able to stand up, but he rolls alote. He is still eating and drinking and he is very eager to do so. I am going to try the Ivomec today, and pray to god that I get the right dosage. i know the dosage is 1/10 of a cc.

To the person that ask what color he is......black. He is a black Lionhead. He is not a meat rabbit, he is my dd's pet. I will continue to take care of him as long as he continutes to fight. I will not give up on him untile he is ready to give up. Thanks for everybody's help.

Just a suggestion on the dosage issue-go buy or beg/borrow/steal an insulin syringe. Tiny with tiny dosages.

Sorry your rabbit is ill-I know diddly about rabbits though.

It's called wry neck. It can either be caused by an inner ear infection or by trauma to the inner ear (where the equilibrium is maintained).

It's almost impossible to cure, but high doses of antibiotics sometimes can work (if it's due to infection, not trauma).

Oxytetracylcline (LA200, Biomycin) injected into muscle tissue can work.

IF you are going to try the antibiotics, you need to start them immediately. Muscle and tissue wasting happens very quickly because the animal has a hard time maintaining balance to eat and drink.

Yes, high levels of antibiotics are dangerous, but if you don't stop the infection before it permanantly damages the inner ear, you will end up with a dead rabbit anyway.
