I got a Netherland Dwarf bunny 5 years ago. Does anyone know the lifespan of these? I was just curious, he seems as lively as he did 5 years ago

Thanks

Our last rabbit was 13 1/2 years old when he passed away. He was less active the last couple of years and had problems getting around the last few months. Until then, he was his usual self. One morning, he was just gone.

I've read of other rabbits living to be 12-14 years old.

Wow, I thought they only lived 3-5 yrs

. Not that I'm complaining, just surprised.

I got my little rabbit from a pet store when I was a Junior in High School....the pet store guy said they only lived about 5 years. Well, I'm almost 31 yrs old now...and the little guy's still here...he lives w/my parents and is doing just fine. Mom says he could live another couple years easily. Just goes to show you!

If properly cared for rabbits can live for 15 years.

If houses out side they live a shorter live.

When I worked at a pet store we had signs next to our rabbit cage that said "he's a 15 year commitment not a childs toy" I wish more pet stores would have signs like that. Since most people think they are like hamsters. But really they are more like dogs.

Here is a really great website on rabbits with lots of info: www.rabbit.org/

Ours have never lasted that long. They'd always find someway to escape from the hutch and then the dogs would get them. We had one for about two years before the heat became too much (my 8-year-old sister was supposed to put cold water bottles in the hutch but she forgot once too often). And when we first started using the hutch, the dogs would get underneath and chew their toes.
