Rabbit thread!!!

I love the new bunnies but I just have a little trouble naming my supper. I know I have 8 girls that will be in the freezer for McNuggets or whatever. I enjoy my chickens & ducks but they really don't have names. Oh, except Pita, she's a real Pain In The *** lol. I've clipped her wing but she said

to me!
I will be shearing my Buck shortly, if the weather would warm up a tad for me! lol I'm a baby for the cold. I'm not a winter person and with the boys back home there not much of a chance to down size and get a home in a warmer location! So my baby's are safe from any changes.
Is there anyone out there who raises rabbits for the fiber?

We picked up two rabbits yesterday, no idea what breed they are, but they would have been meat rabbits if we had not gotten them. Our ten chickens "free range" in the fenced in area of our back yard and go in and out of their coop as they please. No issues with predators around here luckily. Neighbor behind me has 25 free roam with no fence.

Question is whether or not the rabbits should be free roam with the chickens or if there is some issue I have not thought about. They get along fine, and I will build a small hutch for the rabbits with a door small enough that the chickens won't get in. Rabbit food, water and salt will be in there. Figure they can dig out if they really wanted to but if they are happy, they should stay. My pigeons have free will to leave but I feed them so they stay...

In other words, we plan on treating the rabbits just like the chickens. Food, water, shelter, and some live and let live attitude up until they turn mean and then they are pollo. Wait, chickens are pollo. Hasenpfeffer maybe?

Your rabbits may live long, happy lives, contented to live within the confines of your yard, or not. It's not an easy call.

Rabbits dig - it's just what they do, particularly does. You may think your yard is big enough, but that won't stop them from digging under the fence if they think they need more territory. There have been quite a few folks with free-ranging rabbits that thought their rabbits never strayed from their yards, only to learn from a neighbor that their rabbits were raiding the neighbor's garden. You will need to make sure your fence is secure, and keep checking it - rabbits can be sneaky!

The chickens and the rabbits may continue to get along fine; many people have them living together with no issues. However, sometimes the rabbits get picked on by the chickens, or begin picking on the chickens as they mature. Even if they get along fine, you will need to make sure that the rabbits cannot get into the chicken feed: even scratch grain is not good rabbit food (though they probably love it!)

2 rabbits 12 rabbits maybe even more! There can be fights to the death for a girl in heat!
Dig a hole as deep as you can, lay down chain link fencing making sure to secure it to whatever you want to put on the ground. like a basket. I've seen some places that have used truck caps to help keep the weather off of them! I would use chainlink fencing all arnd so only weasels and small things like that could come in and get them. You could even divide it up but remember! the guys are smart and can do it threw the fencing!

Would anyone want a free Hollandlop/satin for their collection. I'm getting into fiber art so I want to learn to spin! My DD has made me a e spinner and now if I can find a drum carder with a 128 tpi. Does anyone here spin? I would love to know where I could find one at a really good price. I have German Hybrids!

These guys are for sale. But at the moment I don't have any. I didn't want the rabbit to be forgotten after the tree was put away. But check with me come spring!

This is Hunter, he was born the end of april and now I need to make room and give my poor guy some love and time. He's called Hunter cuz my dd would always I shoot rabbits but I won't own it.! So Hunter jjust seemed to fit to me! He's free!

My rabbits live free range with the hens and guinea pigs. They don’t dig. I have been raising them like this for years. Then all of the sudden two died. For no reason. I'm shocked and scared for my other two.
