we really miss him in the house.
we have had rabbits since being in our house. we lost our beloved "lady" that was her name a few years ago. she bonded so well with 3 other male rabbits.
mopsey- lasted only 1 year old
brownie-passed away about 4 years old
oreo---still with us.
lady- who passed away 2 years ago, she would have been 7 years old.
so its just sad.....
oreo used to chew the carpet rug in the kitchen. this time it was real bad. so i did cut some of the rug up and placed it on the floor of his cage.
he had the whole run of the kitchen and we have a playroom for our 2 young kids,,, off the kitchen, he had chewed many many toys.
but when we got some more baby chicks,, he payed attenetion to them.
it was real cute.
so i think he has company now.....more animal compnay than us human people.
i feel like now he can get alot of attenion from the animals.
just sad,,, i know hes outside doing well.. i have checked on him a billion times.
anyways thanks everyone.

back again for an update.
oreo did fine throughout the night. i have to leave my house by 330am for work, so i checked on him and the others outside. he did look comfortable. there was a chick laying beside the cage.
perhaps there are conversations going on. i then peeked thru the window, as i left and he seemed content.
food and water had been drunk. and there was poop on the floor.
so that made me feel good.

i get home from work about 1115am so oreo will come right out of there and go in the back porch. its one of these back porchs, that are called an all-season porch.
its enclosed with white sheer curtains. its pretty.
theres my daughters old crib that i convered to a day bed for out back there.
oreo was underneath the bed most of the day.
as we all know rabbits like to be underneath things.

I have had an unaltered male rabbit in with my chickens since we have had chickens. He too started out as an inside bunny but had to be moved outside due to marking inside the house and chewing everything. He stays in the coop with them at night and free ranges with them during the day. Yea he puts himself back up just like they do. We live on 5 acres of unfenced property. Here is some pics of him with his flock...Please ignore my over turned chair...My turkey hen tried to roost on it and it fell over.

This isn't directed at the OP. Turning an animal loose is not free ranging. Not even if its allowed to run free during the day and locked up at night. A proper free ranged animal is one that is fenced in, yet allowed to eat what it would naturally, and its protected from the elements and predators. Tractoring rabbits and chickens is about the only proper way to free range them. Go backyard herds and look under some of the threads. There is a couple of people there doing free ranging with caged/tractored/penned rabbits. Now OP if you do decide to allow the bunny to have some time outdoors, set up a nice pen for him, where he is protected. Like a large dog cage or a pet pen. Never let them run loose.(I am sure you know that

)

lilwhispers what you are doing is OK. That is the proper way to house chickens and rabbits together. They don't have contact with each other, and I bet your chickens enjoy scratching around under the cages.

Glad he is doing ok outside.
