You have to be careful with anything that is not made for rabbits as they will chew everything.

I live in Northern Wisconsin, In the winter I use bowls for the water when the water starts to freeze the rabbits can chip holes to get a drink, They can't do this with a water bottle. If you use water bottles one way to slow down the freezing is to attach a small bathroom type rug to the side of the rabbit hutch, I have also done this and it works. OR you can spend a little extra money and buy a heated water bowl which will not freeze just be sure to keep the cord out of bunnys reach, sharp teeth and electricity does not mix well
Also just wanted to add in the closed off rabbit house I stuff it full of hay they love to burrow into the middle and it keeps them nice and warm.

I've kept rabbits before, outside, and we live in alaska. Water freezing was a prob, but like someone else said, to put warm water inb the bottle. I have also put a wool sock over the bottle, that has warm water in it. And changing the bottle several times a day is effective. When it's real cold, be out there first thing in the AM, to give them new water. It is especialy important to have plenty of water during cold dry weather...(the kind I'm not looking forward to.) Its as with all animals that they need special care in the winter.

Yep-I lived in Bend Oregon and it froze quite often there. When I started there with rabbits, they were outside. I would use rubber type crocks and fill them with warm water twice a day.

You can buy heated water bowls just about anywhere. I even found the 1 quart size at Wal Mart on clearance for $4.
I bought their entire stock of them. I absolutely refuse to have an animal without heated (thawed) water in the winter.

You can always find something. We've used fishpond heaters in pools for ducks, a birdbath heater in a dog bucket, etc,... before we started finding the bowls.

If you google the subject you can get heated water bottles for rabbits online.

Also just wanted to add; It's alot easier to empty the frozen water out of the bowl than it is to empty it out of a water bottle, it just pops right out! Very nice when you have Thirsty Bunnies!
