White/grey. I just remembered the brown bunny that was making the best was bleeding a little bit on Wednesday. So it doesn't make sense that my black doe gave birth, yet all the babies are black.

Knowing rabbit genetics as well as I do, it makes perfect sense to me that a brown rabbit bred to a white/grey rabbit would have black babies.

Hi,

This is probably silly but I have 3 does in a cage. They are all due this week but one doe is most likely not pregnant because she wouldn't let the male mount her. Anyway, my black doe was due Monday and one brown doe was due Wednesday. So there is only one nest box that's made with pulled hair and with hay. This was made by the brown doe on Tuesday. She pulled her hair out and put lots of hay in. And some babies were born on Wednesday morning. I just took the babies out of their burrows and looked at them and they're all black. So did my black bunny have kits inside a nest made by another doe? Will the brown doe make a new nest? Will the brown doe kill the black babies?

The does are all friendly with each other. Both brown does keep entering the nest box and not harming the babies and the black doe is just sitting in the corner all day, which is not like her.

I'm going to be posting this in the other rabbit thread, hope that's not an issue.

Thanks

I would separate the does. No matter how nice they seem to one another, mothers will do anything to protect their young if they even think that they are in danger or feel threatened.

I went to the vet today and got an xray. The black doe still has kits.

He palpate and used stethoscope and said kits are living. He recommended against oxytocin and said to wait. I will probably bring her again if she hasn't had babies in 2 days. It's day 31 today.

I see the picture is hard to see but on the right are two kits. They seem large to me but I don't know.

When my rabbits have fur mites, I drip Ivermectin pour-on (for cattle) on the skin behind their neck. The dosage I use is the same as listed on the package/bottle, 1 ml/22 lbs. For my 8-9 pound rabbits, that is between .35 and .4 ml. I assume this treatment would work on ear mites, too. I'm not sure if I would use it on 3 week old kits, though. The dosage would need to be very small to avoid overdosing (although I've heard Ivermectin has a wide safety range).

One important thing if you're using Ivermectin: Don't use it on Dutch colored/Vienna Marked rabbits. They are apparently sensitive to the drug; it can be dangerous to use on them.

Opps did not see the "3 week old kit" part, it probably would not harm them given a small enough dosage, but I would personally wait. I had no idea that dutch colored rabbits had problems with ivermectin! It is amazing what genetics can do.

You must not ever try to induce labor in a rabbit with oxytocin. If you give enough to actually start contractions before the doe starts them on her own, it could rupture her uterus and kill her. If the doe is already in labor, a small amount of oxytocin can cause her contractions to become much stronger. This is why vets don't let inexperienced people get their hands on drugs like this.

I would give your black doe until at least day 33-34 before taking her to a vet again and trying to induce labor. Some rabbits simply have longer gestation periods (normal for them); this is more common with small litters. I've only ever induced one doe into labor, at the advice of an experienced rabbit person who also happens to be a vet tech. She was on day 35, clearly pregnant (huge, sides rolling), and definitely uncomfortable. She pulled fur on day 32 and I think day 34, but no kits. I'm not sure if she was in active labor at the time I induced her, though clearly she was in some type of labor, since her uterus didn't rupture. A few minutes after giving oxytocin, the doe delivered 10 kits, two of which were alive. Since then, she has had another successful litter of 8 live kits/2 stillborn that didn't need to be induced.
