so last night, my hens got attacked by a raccoon that just the other day picked a fight with my dog. He found out how to unhitch the nesting box and went after my smallest hen. Thankfully we heard the screaming and were able to fight of the raccoon, but he put up a real fight. The only injuries inflicted where a LOT of missing feathers and a bleeding beak. I’m working on disinfecting the beak and improving the hatch, but I was wondering if anyone knew of ways to repel such a stubborn, violent and persistent raccoon?

A gun does come to mind.
You can also try putting up hot wires around your coop and run.

I agree, if they have found a way in they will be back. Electric wire is my friend. Do you have a trap. I trap and permanently relocate.

The least expensive and likely most effective approach that I would go to first is to acquire and set a couple of dog proof traps with one actually in the coop. Cost for me is just over $20 for two traps. Trap and kill it and do not assume only one is involved. Then get a low output solar powered fencer charger and place a couple strands around where the birds are kept. Once fence in place, continue the trapping effort dispatching as you go. Be always on lookout for ways to make the night time quarters for the chickens more raccoon resistant.
