We had a racoon attack our chickens, and one survived. However, her neck was ripped open, almost severing her food sac. She's still eating and drinking; and I crushed up an aspirin, putting it in her water along with 911 recovery powder. I've been cleaning her wounds with sterile water and wound spray, not touching the sac. Can a chicken survive without the food sac?

Don’t know how to treat that. Im sorry that you lost your flock. Hope your remaining chicken recovers soon. Depending on your coop/run set up, you might benefit from placing dog proof coon traps around your coop and run. I used marshmallow and peanut butter as bait. The coons usually go for that before trying to dig their way into the coop or run. Shot many of these disgusting pests once they were trapped.

Hard to get a good pic.
