My chickens were attacked the other night..one hen was gone but my poor scruffy Banty hen was outside the coop laying up against the fence...i called my husband who was on the road trucking hystericallyrics crying because she is from our very first flock n is the one left she is at least 6 yes old, foxes killed the others...anyway my husband told me to leave her go she was more then likely dead n it was nerves still making her move..so I went to leave n she got up n started following me..which sent me into another frenzy..so I was looking around to see if could tell what attacked her n there she ran out of the pen area n started wondering down the hill..so I went over to get her n take her up home with me...she let me carry her up...but her injuries r so bad that I really didn't think she would make throughout the night..when my husband came home he checked on her..have her in the rabbit hutch..n there she was alive..in bad shape but alive..so he gave her food n water n she is eating n drinking...her left side all the feathers r off n it's completely raw...so today we tried to spray peroxide over it all n I was going to put petroleum jelly on but the peroxide just sent her into a hysterical stat..she was trying to jump out of the pen..so if the peroxide is hurting her how am I suppose to do anything else..we r giving her gatorade for the electrolytessay...PLEASE HELP...TIA!!

Yeah hydrogen peroxide has that effect on me too! Be calm and patient with her. If the skin is just raw, with no open wounds, and she's eating and drinking, there is a good chance you can save her. Make sure the raw skin is clean, maybe wash gently with a mild soapy warm water, pat dry, and apply an antibiotic creme like polysporin creme. Do you have Blu-Kote? It's an antiseptic spray that doesn't sting and stays on to help healing.

Give her easy to eat foods like yogurt and scrambled egg or milky bread, keep her surroundings clean and calm, and hope for the best!

Blu-Kote is like iodine but blue not red. Tack shops and horse feed stores all carry it because its commonly used on horse wounds. Your local feed store might have it?

Don't worry too much. Skin likes to heal. If her skin is clean and dry it will start healing even with nothing on it at all. Something soothing like aloe vera or polysporin creme might be nice, or something that would protect the surface like Blu-Kote would be nice. But trust to nature. If she's eating, drinking, (Gatorade is a great idea!) and resting normally she will be healing.

Nevermind..just bought off of amazon n will be here by Wednesday. .I'll do what I can for the next couple days...gonna stop at tractor supply tomorrow to see what they have

They have BlueKote. Do not mess around with animal bites. Get treatments going now. If not doing so already, go out now and switch her water with some laced with antibiotic.

Are you certain birds now in more coon proof location?

Peroxide burns if not rinsed off skin. It really shouldn't be used more than once if any. Betadine or Hibiclens, or just plain water with a kitchen faucet sprayer is good. Neosporin or other antibiotic ointment should be used (generic is fine, but not pain killer.) Puncture wounds are usually present in animal attacks, and if those aren't kept open for a couple of days with neosporin, they may abscess. Procaine Penicillin G is available at most feed stores, and dosage is 1/4 ml daily as a shot into the breast muscle for 4 days (20 gauge needles, 3 cc syringes.)
