Raccoon in Our Chimney?

i use a chimney sweep. he is awesome. he told me tons of raccoon tales. not funny some, some hilarious. but seriously, like stated above, people have burned their homes down over this.

get it checked out.


guess what the best 'non-live' thing he found was? an antique gold coin stuck in the mortar. how cool is that?

Oh I don't envy you at all! A couple of months ago, when we were building our Ft Knox of a coop/run, a raccoon actually got into our house through a clerestory window on the 2nd floor. Luckily it was confined in a closed off room. But, since it couldn't go out the way it came in it punched out a screen and jumped... landed on DH's new Harley!

Good luck with getting rid of the critter... here's hoping it's a cheap and easy remedy! (BTW, I'm just up the road from you, outside of Placerville).

I never had a coon in my chimney but have had a squirrel in mine. I put a have-a hart trap in my fireplace, but actually caught it in a net when it came out into the house. I have doors on my fireplace. There is a picture of the fireplace on the bottom of my BYC Page.
