I would suggest making a "room" for your hens, wood floor, if not wood, heavy gauge wire for floor, then wire in sides and ceiling. I didn't catch where you was from, but if a cooler climate, you can plastic in the "room" in the winter. Sorry to say this, but racoons LOVE fresh Chicken! Yum. If you are able to fit a coon in, then weasles, skunks, snakes, rats, mice and the list goes on for potential illness/deaths.
