Raccoon visiting to steal feed

Pics
I didn't have chickens at the time, so was just advice on integrating the new dog with the old dog. They did not want the new dog coming back to the shelter.

Yikes, that's kinda scary(I assume you mean raccoon pup and not a dog)...and not normal, unless it was cornered. Hopefully it wasn't sick, be careful, wash thoroughly after any contact.
It was a pup. There was a group of 3 outside the fence and we tried to scare them off which could have made them feel cornered since they were so young. 2 of the 3 ran off but that one was scary. Fortunately no one got hurt and we did not have to touch it

Checked the trap this morning and it was empty. It was unmoved and the food was untouched. Gotta check the game camera but I'm hoping thats the last of them coming to visit. Now we should be able to lure them away from the house by setting the trap outside the fence! We scared off 2 of 3 pups last night that were outside the fence. We are hoping they dont come back. We've taken no pleasure in this but it is for the good of our flock.

Put the trap outside the fence to get those youngsters.

I know the opinions differ on trapping, dispatching, and flock protection- but I do want to say that if you see them around Winter/trapping season, always consider giving tanning a try like I mentioned. It brings use to the hide instead of just disposing of it. If you've never tanned before, it can be difficult to know how to properly flesh and clean (so alot of the time folks begin on squirrels, rabbits, etc). While protecting the flock, it also introduces you to a new skill. I am very fond of making little waste, so that's why I wanted to mention this in case you want to try and do the same.
:)
Here is the last coon that messed with my girls: he was a big sucker with the softest, plushest fur you can imagine, permanently relocated to my couch :)
