Nice to see your post, 4-H Chicken mom! I'm in Cleveland and just got my first pullets from Oberlin a few weeks ago... and, sadly, a couple have been done in by a raccoon. I've just got the one barred rock now, hoping to add a couple more and some Americaunas when my coop has been secured a bit more. I thought I read somewhere that someone kept a transistor radio playing near the coop to scare them away, and will be searching to see if anyone here has any experience with that.

So far the hot wire around the bottom of my fence has done a good job of discouraging predators from hanging around. Also if there is one coon there are probably more, so killing or trapping may only temporarily solve the problem.
