Racoon Attack Caught in Action!

I have chicken wire on the 2 windows and the small window in the door..... I will switch right away as I was thinking last night that they might tear it out... secured with staple gun. What is hardware cloth? and how do you suggest I "nail" it to the wood on the inside of the coop? Is it coated with plastic?

Thanks for all your comments! KEEP THEM COMIN"!

Someone in another thread (I couldn't remember which one) said they have a radio turned on. When they tried having if off, the racoons would be in the yard....when it was on, they would stay away. It might work with your racoons too.

I lock my chickens up every night at 7:00. We lost 9 chickens in just over a week to raccoons between 4:30 p.m. and 7:00. They are coming out in the afternoon. I have seen signs of them around the coops at night, but my coops are well built and predator proof.

Radio and lights only acted as candle light and music for coons to eat my sweet corn by. Did nto scare them at all. Been using electric fence for 8 years and have not lost a ear of corn since.

What is hardware cloth?

The stuff that keeps the `huge ones' from going through the windows and will send them, instead, to a nicely baited trap where they can be retired from the target pool.

(.5" hardware cloth with an appopriate cutting tool - small bolt cutters make quick work of cutting the cloth to size).

Also, I'd suggest attaching to coop frame with wood screws fitted with oversized washers (place every 6-8in.).
