Racoon friend or foe?

I have seen everything now. Words of advice, shoot him. This includes Possums, Skunks, stray cats, snakes and whatever. If you trap him, that coon will be fit to be tied, just saying.

One other thing to keep in mind about coons. They carry some nasty parasites in their feces. You don't even want it anywhere near your chickens and having them peck at it. It's called Baylisascaris procyonis, the raccoon parasite. Google it, and you will see there is a great deal written about it. Coonie needs to be evicted.

And not even to other raccoons. I shot a raccoon one night and as the raccoon was taking his last breath another raccoon jumped out of a tree and proceeded to attack and shred to pieces the dying raccoon. How's that for a friend!

i usually trap night predators and dispose of them the next morning when i get home, trust me i have lost approx. 80 or so chickens in the past 8 months due to racoons, possums, coyotes, and a skunk. i usually have a hawk setting in a big tree just 50 feet from my hen house. i was worried he would soon be killing my flock so i made a blind to watch him for a few days, turns out he was catching field mice thank god,{but} what will happen when the food source runs out. i guess i will have to contact a game warden to ask what steps i can take to stop him

This past Sunday I had a raccoon come running out of the woods and run off with my biggest hen. It was broad daylight -- unfortunately I thought they were nocturnal. By the time I got into the house for the shotgun he was out of range and my beautiful girl was dead in the creek. I've been setting the trap at night (afraid of catching squirrels and cats during the day) but haven't caught him yet. I surely wish I'd get another chance with the gun. I won't let my babies free range until I know he's gone. I guess I'll have to put up a fenced yard for them. Could someone give me ideas for the best kind of fencing.

Coons killed every eastern painted turtle and green frog in my pond. They trash my corn crop. They are constantly trying to get into my three hen houses.I captured and killed many outside my hen houses, they just keep coming.Catch and kill, he/she will trash your flock in due time, given the chance..

Any aminal eating what I buy for me and mine is a foe. I would kill the coon and anything else that is dumb enough to get past my fence.
