Racoon proofing cover question

Yikes! I am having the hardest time keeping a coon out of my chicken yard! It has chewed through numerous repairs in my wire then chewed through 2 x 4 wire I put up to keep it out. Live trap keep having bait stolen without trapping anything. The odd part is that it is not eating my chickens, just the eggs. Also odd that it hits during the day as holes appear between my daytime visits to the coop.

Any ideas on how to trap this sneaky coon as it seems to be the only way to stop it!! Help!!!

Make sure there is also no holes around the cage that they can tend to brake in. I had tons of raccoons try and raid my ducks cage scratching the wood to brake in. Just have them in before dusk/night

Sorry to disagree, but forget live traps. Here's the gold standard for coon catching. It made by Duke; it's called a "dog proof". It's known as a "Duke D P" for short. It costs less and is much a much more effective trap than a live trap as it doesn't spook the animal. Bait it with marshmallow and you'll catch coon, bait it with sardine and it'll catch coon, 'possum and skunk. I keep one or two baited 24/7/365 around the coop. A .17HMR or .22LR finishes the job.

Sounds more like rodents than a racoon. Mine would eat the bait and get out through the wires of the trap, the rats were young ones. They didn't get out of the spring traps I set on the floor of my feed area in the coop.
