Deep in the heart of Texas
I found my gorgeous blue Ameraucana beheaded through the chain link of the chicken run. She was my favorite and I was hoping one day to get some chicks from her.

I also lost two of my guineas and my Red Star, so I suspected a racoon. I set the live trap and waited. It took a few days, but I finally caught the culprit. My husband is a hunter and has no problem shooting an animal, but he has a hard time shooting a caged animal. So, he took it about 20 miles away and let it go. I asked him where he took it, and when he told me, I explained to him that the road he was on curved back toward us and the point where he released the racoon was only 5 miles from us as the crow flies. Grrrrrrrrrrr! I hope that blasted racoon doesn't come back. I'll throw the trap in the pond if I catch it again.

I told him about a man who would tie a rope to the trap and throw it in the pond. He knows I'll be ticked if that stupid coon shows back up. I told him specifically to take it 20 miles away. Leave it to a man to screw up something simple like that.

I messed up like that once...lol couldn't shoot or drown a trapped rat... let it go in front of the dog in the middle of the street... dog tripped over it and let it run back into my yard. I reset the trap and next morning there's the same rat, dead with its muzzle stuck in the door of the trap. I thought they were smarter than to go back in a trap. Lucky for me that one wasn't so smart.
The next rat was the first animal I ever shot. No more wimp here. DH wouldn't leave WoW to do it for me. He may be next!

My take on it is...if it's in my yard or on my property and it's after my animals....IT'S DEAD!! Now last year I did set a have a heart trap and caught an oppossum...I was going to kill it, but when I took it out of the cage to shoot it..I saw some movement and a bunch of babies crawled up onto it's back....she looked at me and I let her continue walking. she never came back though..I guess she knew better.

most state it is illegal to release one unless , you release it on your place. Here in Ohio you must destroy them or release them on your place.

Releasing predators you just give your trouble to someone else.........

My husband says the same thing about shooting a caged animal. He doesn't mind hunting, but has a problem with killing something once its caught. So I guess its up to me if we start having trouble again. Guess if I can slit a chickens throat, I can shoot a coon. I guess the cage takes the sportsmanship out of it.
