Rain and chickens

I have found over the years they love the rain ... we recently had a decent hail storm and they found cover and returned to the rain when it was safe !!!
I dont believe giving them heat is necessary ... they will dry off !!!

43f raining and mine are out there looking for worms I guess... under the wet outer feathers they are dry and when they roost their body heat will dry the top feathers... but add humidity to the coop.. another reason ventilation w/- drafts is important

I have a couple Welsummers that, when I open the run door to let them range and it's raining, will look at me as if to say "are you CRAZY? It's raining out there!" and they won't come out. The run is covered so they stay mostly dry. They're still young (8 months) and my older birds never had a problem with rain.

My chickens don't seem to mind the rain at all. Not even at night when they sleep outside.
The past nights it was drizzling and getting close to freezing so I locked them in the coop at night 3 times in a row.
Today when it had got dark I went outside to carry them individually into the coop again and guess what: they were already in there ready to sleep. What a relieve.
:yesss:

About that rain again: :idunno
