We got about an inch overnight and a long thunder and lightning show. It started up again today at about noon and was raining hard. The chickens are all out of their run and they refused to go in because water was dripping off the roof or some other nonsense. No amount of scratch would get them in. What did they do? They bunched up and did their best to drown. I was finally able to bribe them under my big hoop house and I hope they are smart enough to stay there. I just cleaned the coop too and it could be nice and warm in there if they would go in. I guess I'll go out and try to get them in as it's not pouring at the moment. Chicken problems aside, this is great news for our firefighters and our lungs.

Maybe they just wanted to play in the rain.
I have one dog that will go in the doghouse when it rains, the other stands by the backdoor and whines to go in the house ... uh, no. I don't let wet dogs into the house.

Is there a way to put something on top of the run at the part with the coop so the water doesn't run off into the run the same way?

I will try it. The run is chain link panels with pvc bows on top and covered with a blue tarp

My chickens love the rain. It's been raining here for over a month with all these Atlantic storms and they'll be pecking around in puddles of water even during down pours with lighting striking everywhere. They like to forage all the bugs that the water brings out.

Glad your getting rain on that side of the country, y'all sure need it.
