I dont doubt that but without evidence(research papers and links to other cold hard facts) to back up that claim I would personally never make it.
There is pollution everywhere. We have farms right on the rivers and lakes. Erosion, and sediment pushing into the streams. The frogs are nearly gone. No hellbenders anymore. No bumblebees. I pine for even my youth, and I'm only 40.

Many consider rain water healthier than our own city water and those into fermented feed articles have recommended it may be healthier to leave water out 24 hours to dechlorinate water prior to mixing and fermentation. We also fluoridate our water in many areas and it is sent through a treatment plant to filter and purify and gets recycled back out again. Not much of that is needed for birds just humans.

Would it be necessary to have the rain barrel water filtering or constantly moving to avoid being stagnant and algae growth??

You wouldn't want to store water long term due to stagnation. Malaria, debgue, breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Always amazed at the stray cats the wife subsidizes. Twice a day she sets out fresh water for them. And where do we see them drink from? The mud puddle from the last rain.

My chickens and dogs would drink from the soapy, nasty runoff from cleaning the shop, dog pen, cars and carport if I let them. They know by now, I won't, and leave it alone.

i would still rather drink water from a stream in the ozarks then a stream in the Appalachia's lol. I have been here for 20 years, yeah there is pollution but it doesn't seem any worse here then it was, in fact things in my area seem better, all the "regular" people are moving out and there are mennonites moving in and other environmentally conscious people moving into the area. // speaking of frogs i did notice this last year that the number seemed up. same with snakes. I saw a wood grouse for the first time just last year out here and I saw my 5th,6th and 7th bobcat last year. Black bear was spotted down the road and as i recall turkey numbers are way up. some of the waterways are a little "ehhh" but where i live there is plenty of deep clear clean water. I wouldnt want to live anywhere else.

But you just did.

I'm not sure what this has to do with OP's question but i will humor you. lol how so? I only said I liked it here and gave examples as to why, anecdotal evidence that I never claimed to be based in science. i didnt say it was less polluted with certainty, I only said things seemed to be looking up?

Fact is we laymen act like we know but none of us really have any idea. the pollutants in my part of the country aren't the same as the pollutants in other parts. we may have more agricultural runoff as apposed to other parts of the country struggling with solid waste or air pollution, who is to say which is worse. I cant say with certainty that the gasses from cars in the big city are less harmful to me then the waste commercial farming does in my area
