Rain gutters on metal carport?

I can certainly see your point, but ice dams and snow are not a problem here. I don't know which Enchanted Forest Wise Woman is in.

I am in the mountains in southern California. We sometimes have bad winters and then sometimes we don't. Last winter I had ice from my roof down to the ground on the north side of my house. No gutters there yet as we are re-roofing this summer. I didn't think that was doing the house any favors either. So confusing what to do. The water running off the roof is hitting the ground and seeping into the run.

I am open to suggestions if anyone has any ideas. This is our first time in almost 20 years of chicken keeping with a covered run, so I am figuring things out as I go along. I certainly do not want rust or dripping inside the run. But I don't want mud puddles around the edges either. Maybe it is a lesser of two evils situation.

Look around at other houses in your area and if you see a lot of them with gutters then is must be ok you have them in your Enchanted Forest. Also if you have lots of deciduous trees near by gutters can be a bit of a pain.

It is a toss up around here. Some houses have them and some do not. It is hard to know what to do. I am from Pennsylvania originally and everyone back there had gutters. When I moved out here I thought it strange that the houses in the desert have no gutters. Here in the mountains though, some do and some don't, so I don't know what the logic is on that.

So I must ask...Why are you so concerned about a bit of water getting into the run? It isn't your basement or crawlspace or attic...

Because that is where they are all day long. Their food is out there as well. We built a smaller coop with a covered run so that they wouldn't have to be holed up in the coop during bad weather. The whole idea of a covered run was so they have a dry run all year long. If it is going to be muddy and soaking wet, there would be no point in having a covered run. I realize a little water might get in, but just from the couple storms we did have, which weren't all that bad, we had a much larger amount of water coming in than I would like. It got wet clear over to the coop on all sides but the front. Just trying to do the best I can for my girls.

How far is that fascia away from edge of metal roofing?
Got an end shot and a dimension?

Were you happy with the carport installers?
Might be good to ask them, have them come give you a quote....
...and explain how they'd do it ;)

Aart, it is 2 inches from the edge of the roof. Hope this picture helps. I tried calling the place that installed it but their phone is no longer in service.
