Rain!!

We have been having continuous heavy rain today. The temperature is in the mid 20's Celsius, I guess. Previously, our 6 month old turkeys have headed for the coop when it rains but today they are standing out in it as if waiting for a bus on a lonely road. I've trusted their own judgment so far but this looks stupid. If I have to go out in the rain and mud to put them in the coop I will but what advice can someone offer, please?

Sounds like you need to invest in some turkey raincoats

I decided to get the turks indoors anyway - just one hour before their regular bedtime so it wasn't a problem. They seemed remarkably dry, considering, and quite happy - a nice change from the baking heat that they have hidden from during the day for the past few weeks.

I take it from the replies so far that rain isn't a problem to turkeys.

Once they are fully feathered they don't get wet as easily. Back in 2005, October 1st we had temps in the low 90's (around 32C). By October 4th the temperature had dropped and we got hit with a blizzard with 15" of snow and my Royal Palm cross hen with her 5 babies disappeared. I was extremely worried about them! It took about 3 days for them to all show up (they came in a few at a time) but they did all come back. Those babies were about 2 1/2 months old. So I wouldn't worry about them in the rain too much unless they look like they are suffering. As long as you don't have typhoon/monsoon winds to go along with the rain that would blow them to who knows where...

They seem fine this morning. I think that they were enjoying the coolness of it all after the heat we've had.

We do sometimes get strong gusts of wind before a storm but nothing serious.
