I'm seriously looking into growing some of my own grains as well. I have horses and a cow (who will eventually have a calf and we might be finishing out our own beef steer... still pondering that possibility) in addition to my chickens and turkeys. With feed as high as it is, it sure would be nice to grow a bit of my own grain. Don't have a lot of extra land to do it with, but from what I've read a little bit of land can produce a decent amount of grain if managed well.
Course, we'd need some rain. Which we just aren't getting. We've had horrible years last couple. Last year we had spring flooding, then drought. This year we had a couple heavy rains, and then nothing. Add to that even higher temps than normal... well... not much is growing!
