Raise Sparrows

We wanted to see more birds around the farm to help ward off bugs and just plain because we wanted to see their colorful selves flitting about the place. We put up 6 Bluebird nest boxes, check them periodically to be sure sparrows aren't taking up residence. If there are sparrows, we chuck the nest and keep a close eye on the box. The neighbor put some boxes up as well, the bluebird population in our neighborhood has exploded. We love it(even if they do take a liking to the blackberries).

Some of those birds are sooo blue, they practically glow purple.

We put out hummingbird feeders, those get hit up quite a bit.

We don't put up waterers, simply because we have half a whiskey barrel with plants in it, a koi pond, and a large 2 acre pond. I remember as a child, we put a small garden pond with goldfish in the backyard. It is amazing how the wildlife find it and frequent it so often. There were always birds, toads, and frogs in and around it.

Just know that if you put out seed, you may attract more than just birds. If you're okay with that, go for it!
