Raised floor?

I want to build a new chicken coop. I just finished my other but now I want more chickens.

We have a part of our yard that floods in bad rain about 4 inches. Couldn't I raise the coop on something, not sure what and what could I build the floor of? It will be a 8x4x5 walk in coop that is a trianglular prism shape. The yard isn't flooded long and I can prime the wood...

you can either make concrete footers, or buy them or use cinder-blocks to raise the coop, I have mine on cinderblocks, floor is framed with 4x4's left over from my old wood fence and covered with 3/4" plywood sheets, with vinyl on top.

Ideally you would raise it a foot or more, because a) if it not infrequently floods 4", chances are it will *sometimes* flood a bunch more; and more importantly b) having less than a foot under your coop is just BEGGING for wood rot and for animals to hunker down underneath and try to rip/gnaw thru into the coop.

Cinderblocks or posts are good.

You'll need to think about the ground *around* the coop too. Especially if you have a run (I'd suggest putting in 6" or more of a sand-gravel mix, contained by grade boards around the edge - not totally cheap but you will SO never regret it, as compared to a smelly fly-ridden mudpit), but even if you free-range (because you don't want the chickens to have to disembark into a lake or mudswamp)

Um, i don't know. We are about an hour from raliegh. Off highway 87... an hour from SC and a heck long way away from virginia?

I'm bad with directions... We are 3-4 hours from Highpoint...
